Heather Meyer, CLD (CBI)
I have been married to Ross since 2004 and we have two beautiful girls, Catherine (May 2006) and Lindsey (May 2008). We have lived in Lynchburg, Virginia since 2002.
Since I was young, I have loved babies. We had a lot of young moms in our neighborhood when I was growing up and I could always be found at one of their houses holding a new baby. Even now, if there is a baby in the same room as me, I am usually holding him or her while everyone else begs for a turn!
While I love to help any pregnant or new mom, I have a special place in my heart for very young moms and women experiencing a crisis pregnancy. During college I volunteered at a crisis pregnancy center and enjoyed meeting the women who came in for counseling during their pregnancies. I also volunteered at the local crisis pregnancy center here in Lynchburg before I was married. I have always been drawn to pregnant women, but never knew of a way to support them other than being a doctor or nurse.
During my first pregnancy, I read about doula support. I didn't make much of an effort to look into finding a doula locally until I was many months into my pregnancy. I did eventually hire one, and we only were able to meet once before my baby arrived unexpectedly early. My doula was a very necessary part of my labor and delivery experience, and I don't know that I could have done it without her. Because of her knowledge and support, I began to do some research and found that I enjoyed reading about pregnancy and birth as much as I enjoyed babies! I went into my second birth feeling much more equipped. I had a doula that time around as well, and even though I knew more and my husband knew more, it was still invaluable to have another woman there to support me. The continuous support of an experienced woman is something that no woman should have to be without during such a life changing event. After my second daughter was born, I knew without a doubt that I would one day be a doula and help other women through pregnancy, birth, and beyond!
I am
a Certified Labor Doula through Childbirth International
and am currently working on my Breastfeeding Counselor certification. I am thrilled to be a part of a wonderful community of women helping
women and am happy to help answer any questions you might have about
myself, doulas, pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
